A Driving Trip Through Arizona and Utah

Expert Review

Penny Entin, Co-Owner of Frosch Classic Cruise and Travel recently returned from a driving trip through Arizona and Utah visiting national parks and national monuments. She enjoyed it tremendously and is still marveling at the natural beauty of the areas she visited.

She recounts her experience here. This summer my husband, myself and another couple took an amazing driving trip to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion and Lake Powell.

Sedona is a magical town about an hour drive from Phoenix. There are spectacular rock formations. Be sure to take a jeep ride up in the mountains to see the view from the top and the beautiful surroundings. It has a very mystical feel to it. Sedona is home to many historical monuments including Montezuma Castle National Monument, Tuzigoot National Monument, Sunset Crater National Monument, Walnut Canyon National Monument and many others.

The first feeling I had upon seeing the Grand Canyon was " wow" . A powerful and inspiring landscape, Grand Canyon overwhelms our senses just through its immense size. Unique combinations of geologic color and erosional forms decorate the canyon that is 277 river miles long, up to 18 miles wide and a mile deep. We stayed right on the Southern Rim, so early in the morning we took a walk and watched the sunrise as it spread over the canyon.

Bryce is something out of reality. The colors and rock formations almost seem unreal. We took a long hike. The hike was a bit strenuous, but well worth it. This is truly another sight not to be missed.

A big surprise to me was Lake Powell. Lake Powell straddles the border between the state of Utah and Arizona. Lake Powell is the second largest man made reservoir in the United States, with an average water capacity of 24,233,000 acre feet of water. The largest is Lake Mead. We took a boat ride and went far into the area surrounded by steep walls and caverns. A great experience and definitely worth it.

Located on State Route 9 in southwest Utah, Zion is another spectacular not to be missed wonder of the world. Zion National Park is open all year and visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including bicycling, birding, camping, canyoneering, climbing, hiking and horseback riding.

If you want to stay close to home and have a wonderful trip, we highly recommend this one.
