A Car Trip Through Aspen

Expert Review

Aspen, Colorado is a beautiful location offering activities, culture, arts and wonderful restaurants year round. Visit during the winter months and get ready for some of the best skiing around. Or, visit in the spring or summer, when you can hike, bike and explore the natural beauty of the area.

Aspen, Colorado in the springtime is fabulous. The array of colors expands past the ordinary and is so picturesque you feel as if you are staring at a beautiful painting. From California or the west coast, it is a great idea for a long weekend. You can fly into Denver, rent a car and drive into Aspen. It is a long drive, but well worth the time. You will want to make many stops along the way, as one area is more beautiful than the last. In the springtime, the leaves on the trees change colors.

As for the town of Aspen, it has so much to offer. If you are looking for outdoor recreation, you can downhill ski in untouched snow or hike through dense groves. Epic powder days in winter turn to amazing rafting from spring and summer. Warm days lead adventurers to endless trails to bike, hike or climb. There are outdoor concerts, water sports and cultural pursuits. Regardless of the time of year, there is always an unforgettable outdoor activity right at your doorstep.

The town is packed with amazing restaurants. Aspen's palate is ever changing and evolving as foodies the world over are visiting to share their favorites and see what is new. The trends of Macaroni and Cheese and Kale salads has hit, but there are always the good o old fashioned staples too. Travel by sleigh, dog sled or gondola in the winter or simply dine al fresco any time of year on one of the many restaurant outdoor patios. Enjoy coffee and pastries bundled up on the patio of a quaint cafe or indulge in a gourmet meal served inside a cabin style restaurant with wood burning fireplaces.

Have you ever heard of the Aspen Idea? Modern day founders, Walter and Elizabeth Paepke, instilled the idea of nurturing spirit, mind and body, in what is now known as the Aspen Idea. Aspen brings the culture and art of the big city to you sans the honking horns. Summer and winter calendars are full of classical music concerts, jazz events and ballet. The Aspen Santa Fe Ballet annually garners rave reviews and Theatre Aspen pulls the curtain on a terrific playbill every year.

As for hotels, we love the St. Regis Aspen Resort and Viceroy Snowmass. The St. Regis Aspen Resort is a perfect environment for summer sports, superb winter skiing and the arts. Ideally located at the base of Aspen Mountain, the resort is within walking distance to all of Aspen's restaurants, shops and entertainment. The hotel boasts 179 beautiful guest rooms and suites with breathtaking views and luxurious touches everywhere. Our exclusive offer to you is full breakfast daily, $100 food and beverage credit and a welcome amenity.

Viceroy Snowmass is a luxury year round resort where mountain adventure glows with modern spirit. Viceroy Hotels and Resorts offers its first resort at the base of one of the world's finest ski mountains. Only seven miles from downtown Aspen in the heart of Snowmass' new Base Village, the sophistication and sense of place that distinguish Viceroy destination from California to the Caribbean perfectly blend with the Colorado high country. Here our Experts offer the exclusive gift of full American breakfast daily and $100 resort credit for Viceroy Restaurants, lounges and spa.

Aspen makes for a perfect getaway for families and couples. The natural beauty is reflected in each season of the year.
